This session is a two-part hands-on STEM Skills session where participants will apply their critical thinking and collaboration skills in the field. Participants will also have an opportunity to take in the nature of the park and learn all about sketching things they observe and analyze in the outdoors.
Part 1: Klyde Warren Park
Did you know that Klyde Warren Park is a 5-acre deck park over a recessed eight-lane freeway? Not only is it a fantastic green space in Downtown Dallas, but it is also an engineering marvel. We are thrilled to partner with Klyde Warren Park, who is committed to creating fun, education activities for children, families, schools, and after-school groups. During this session, we will learn from TalkSTEM’s Founder and CEO, Dr. Koshi Dhingra how we can transfer STEM skills anywhere in our world. You can learn more about TalkSTEM’s Klyde Warren Park walk at this link.
Part 2: Region 10 Notebooking Outdoors
Once we have concluded our STEM walk, we will break for lunch and then come back together for a session on outdoor interactive notebooking. Interactive notebooking is a fundamental part of learning in that it provides a space for students to record observations, brainstorm, and process phenomena happening in nature. This portion of the session will provide participants with strategies to engage their students through learning outdoors! Please bring a notebook and sketching utensils of choice for this session.
