The Joy of Reading: Why Engagement Matters and How to Support It

This Teaching & Learning professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educators in meeting the needs of students in their district.

Important Session Information:

Avid adult readers find reading personally meaningful and enjoyable. While motivation and engagement remain important factors influencing young people’s reading development, prioritizing joyful reading eludes many school communities. Why does reading enjoyment matter? What components foster reading joy? In this workshop, award-winning TX teacher and author Donalyn Miller will share the benefits of joyful reading and some conditions and resources that foster reading engagement. Includes numerous book recommendations and online resources.
