Diversity in Development and Learning
Assessing and Supporting Diverse Student Populations

Understanding and respect for diversity in development and learning, and advocacy for social justice, are foundations for all aspects of service delivery. Examples of professional practices include:

Addressing individual differences, strengths, backgrounds, and needs in the design, implementation, and evaluation of all services.
Using a problem-solving framework for addressing the needs of English language learners.  Promoting fairness and social justice in school policies and programs

Important Session Information:

A growing number of our students being referred to and placed into special education continue to be our Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) student populations. In order to conduct appropriate evaluations, it is critical that LSSPs know and understand the current literature and best practices when conducting appropriate evaluations for CLD students.

In this session, participants will:

understand how practicing school psychologists characterize assessment practices with CLD populations.
learn what practicing school psychologists find to be common challenges in working with CLD populations.
identify potential ways to apply these results in practical and realistic ways.
