Mental Health Training and Awareness
Supporting Students with Gender Expansive Identities




Mental health professionals understand the biological, cultural, developmental, and social influences on mental and behavioral health, its impacts on learning, and evidence-based strategies to promote social–emotional functioning. Mental Health Training & Awareness supports school staff by increasing awareness and knowledge of mental health and co-occurring disorders as well as the presenting symptoms that affect an individual’s ability to thrive.

Important Session Information:


This session begins with basic terminology specific to gender identity and gender expression as well as risk factors associated with trans and gender expansive populations including the intersection of gender identity and race/ethnicity. Attendees will receive practical instruction on helpful and hurtful phrases, having productive conversations, creating an affirming school counseling setting and affirmative campus, student advocacy, and evidenced based practices/activities that reduce risk factors for this community. Resources and consultation opportunities will be provided.
