THE NEW ART AND SCIENCE OF TEACHING (11/9/21)




Targeted Audience:  Assistant Principals, Dean of Instructions and Curriculum, Principals, Interns

Today, educational leaders are called upon to demonstrate a variety of skills that address demands as mandated by our country, state, city, and communities. Assistant Principals must have cutting-edge professional knowledge and skills to ensure they are invaluable assets to their principal, are able to develop and maintain effective systems, instrumental in supporting teachers in their professional growth, and with the ultimate goal of closing gaps in the education and development of all students. Region 10 ESC Administrative Services is committed to serving our Assistant Principals' needs through the Assistant Principal Leadership Academy – APLA.

The cost for Charter Schools/ISDs/Private Schools who have not purchased the Region 10 Administrative Services Package and non-Region 10 participants is $1,250.00 per person.

Important Session Information:


The New Art and Science of Teaching is a well-researched instructional framework that comprehensively addresses the most alterable effect on student achievement—quality instruction. Discussion and learning will focus on the importance of developing a common language of instruction and implementing a framework for effective teaching. Virtual participants will explore a concrete process for reflective practice and learn how to effectively interface with a coaching colleague. A deep dive into instructional strategies that work in any setting and guidelines on how to give and receive growth-focused feedback round out the experience. 

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Gain an awareness of the research related to the elements of The New Art and Science of Teaching.
  • Learn the instructional framework components, which include: 3 categories, 10 design questions, and 43 elements.
  • Experience many of the 43 elements through hundreds of modeled instructional strategies. • The focus of the session will be on four design areas
    •  Using Engagement Strategies
    • Conducting Knowledge Application Lessons
    •  Providing and Communicating Clear Learning Goals
    •  Using Assessments
