Are we still teaching grammar? With the onset of the Proficiency Movement and the change in state standards for teaching World Languages, many educators have debated the topic of if and how to teach grammar. While strategies for teaching grammar abound, they fail to address the critical issues of what grammar actually is and why we should teach it. As a result of this asynchronous, self-paced workshop, participants will be able to define communication and grammar, and they will be able to articulate the role that grammar plays in making communication happen. This workshop is ideal for new teachers looking for foundational knowledge and veteran teachers who are looking to dig deeper into the why of practices they may implement already.
This self-paced course will be open from January 5, 2021 to March 25, 2021. After registering, participants will receive an email with a link to the Google site that houses all course instructions and tasks. Participants can complete and submit work at any time before March 25th. Between January 5th to March 25th, the Region 10 consultant will periodically review submitted work and determine if credit may be awarded. Certificates will be issued after the course closes on March 25th.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
