Effective Teaching Practices in Secondary Mathematics
Module 2: Implement Tasks That Promote Reasoning & Problem Solving

This Teaching & Learning professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educators in meeting the needs of students in their district.

Important Session Information:

**Please note, this learning experience is a virtual event and will not be hosted at a physical site.**

This series of blended learning opportunities will provide teachers with an understanding of NCTM’s eight effective mathematics teaching practices, based in part upon NCTM’s Taking Action: Implementing Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices in Grades 6-8 and Taking Action: Implementing Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices in Grades 9-12. Throughout the sessions, participants will explore rich mathematical tasks, analyze narrative and video cases of classroom instruction, and analyze student work samples that highlight the practices. Discussions will focus on ways to implement the practices in light of our current educational situations.

Any detailed instructions: From NCTM’s Principles to Action: Effective teaching of mathematics engages students in solving and discussing tasks that promote mathematical reasoning and problem solving and allow multiple entry points and varied solution strategies. (p. 17)
