The Teaching
Free Enterprise program from SMU offers vertically aligned Social
Studies curriculum that is designed to give the teacher a fresh approach to
satisfy the state assigned TEKS. These seminars offer 6 hours of Professional
Development credit to fulfill both District and State requirement. There are
four 90 minutes sessions presenting different topics to inspire both teacher
and student to be better acquainted with various aspects of the Free Enterprise
system. The topics covered will include Economic Freedom in America, The
Economics of Sports, Game Theory, and the Economics of Risk. Each module comes
complete with a teacher’s guidebook complete with student engagement strategies
that promote the higher level thinking skills that all educators crave. Join us
for a stimulating event that will leave you wanting to discover more. A light
breakfast and lunch are provided. Join us on the SMU campus to experience where
world changers are shaped.
Here is a preview of the new modules:
Economic Freedom of North America: Leveraging the very successful Economic Freedom of the World research this module will cover multiple social studies subjects. This is a comprehensive approach that will employ data, maps, and graphics that are sure to engage students.
The Economics of Sports: What role do sports play in a Free Enterprise economy? See a focused look at the dynamic effect of sports on wages, employment, growth, supply & demand, opportunity costs and more.
Game Theory: How can games demonstrate the principles of economics to learners? Be prepared to experience how your students’ attention will be captured with this module that delivers concepts in a unique and engaging approach.
The Economics of Risk: Where does uncertainty fit into how a Free Enterprise economy functions? Embracing the economic concepts of business cycles, opportunity costs, tradeoffs, scarcity, market structures, business organizations and more this module is designed to reveal avenues of teaching students complex economics topics in an understandable format.
