Creating History Labs
Grades 6-12

This Teaching & Learning professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educators in meeting the needs of students in their district.

Important Session Information:

How do you get students to "DO" history? What does the job of a historian look like in practice? Research show that students who are actively engaged in the process of investigation the past rather than sitting passively memorizing facts become stronger critical thinkers, writers and retain information better. In this six hour session, we will delve into the creation of History Labs based on the work of the Stanford History Education Group, Sam Wineburg and Bruce Lesh. Time in the morning will be spent learning how to create and implement History Labs and time in the afternoon will serve as a workshop for participants to begin the development of their own History Labs.
