Donalyn Miller Presents
Empowering Readers with Meaningful Access and Supportive Choice

This Teaching & Learning professional learning opportunity will provide content, material, and strategies to assist educators in meeting the needs of students in their district.

Important Session Information:

Improving young readers’ book access and providing them opportunities to self-select reading material increases their reading engagement, motivation, and reading achievement. Access and choice require more than putting books on our shelves and turning kids loose to choose something to read, though. Young readers need modeling, instruction, and support to develop the self-selection skills they need to choose books on their own. In this workshop, Donalyn Miller shares instructional moves, technology tools and websites, and library and classroom rituals and routines that scaffold young readers’ choices. Workshop includes an extensive list of current books that will engage young readers and expand their understanding of the world and themselves.
