Important Breakout Information:

What better way to teach writing to young writers than calling upon the masters? Using the writing of the authors they love is an engaging way to explore the process as well as the craft of writing. Long before they can read or write, in a conventional way, they can learn to think as readers and writers and experience a variety of craft moves that teach them to express their thoughts in a way that the reader can understand.  In this session we will explore the process that young readers and writers go through to make meaning from text and apply that to their own writing. We will connect reading to writing using children’s literature as mentor texts and incorporate modeled, interactive and shared writing as contexts that will help grow our students as writers.
